About Cow Head

Where ocean, mountains and warmth converge

The most northerly settlement in Gros Morne National Park, on Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula, Cow Head is a place that has to be experienced to be believed, with a permanent population of less than 500 people. Flanked by the sprawling North Atlantic on one side and the towering Long Range Mountains on the other, and home to Shallow Bay – a breathtaking 10km white sand beach, open to the ocean with a mountain backdrop, this is a place of peace and reflection, but no little inspiration. For Cow Head is the home of some of Gros Morne’s most celebrated arts and cultural attractions, including the wildly popular Gros Morne Theatre Festival, and the ever-growing Gros Morne Fall Fest. When you do bump into a local resident, you will be greeted with warmth, enthusiasm and interest. Welcome to Cow Head!
